Moments With Mama. Remembering a true original. March 27 2010: This lady here will live in my heart forever. She was a special friend and the best radio talk show host ever. We had a special relationship. There are only a few thousand other people who feel exactly the same way about Mama O'Shea. Mama passed away in 1998, but we still have the tapes of her show, "Shoutin' Out with Mama O'Shea," that aired every Friday afternoon on KPFA Berkeley long enough to become a staple of many people's lives. A handful of us have done special programming on KPFA every year on her birthday, which happens to be International Women's Day, but this year we just didn't have the juice around the station to get air time for a tribute to Mama. Fortunately, much to my amazement, Mama still had her own juice going. Some women at KPFA remembered our tributes from years past, and invited us to share some Mama moments with them during some special programming this weekend. So we offer these tidbits to them and to our friends in cyberspace as a tribute to a die-hard liberal, a unique voice, a wonderful friend and a crazy-ass old lady with a filthy mind. Click to play these Mama Moments, and enjoy. |
